Dear UNEVOC Network Members!
As you may know, 30 March has recently been declared International Day of Zero Waste by the United Nations General Assembly, and we would like to encourage you to seize the occasion to raise awareness about waste reduction and sustainable consumption. UNESCO Headquarters in Paris is organizing a “Zero Waste Day” on Tuesday, 26 March. We invite you to similarly consider how you can use this opportunity to engage your institution’s staff, noting that the date you choose can be flexible to allow for adequate planning.
To assist you in potentially planning a meaningful initiative, we suggest considering an adaptation of one or several of the following activities:
- Zero waste and/or composting workshop led by an expert or passionate staff member
- Internal, staff-led guided tour of your waste facilities
- Informative, waste sorting quiz that helps inform staff on proper waste management
- Establishing a “sharing-shelf” where unused office supplies can be repurposed as a resource
We would be eager to hear about any activities that you are able to implement. We invite you to share your experience with the Network Secretariat, so that we can compile a list of UNEVOC Centre activities to mark the day.
Thank you for your dedication to advancing environmental sustainability!
Warm regards,
UNEVOC Network Secretariat
